MinLearn® offers the Reading Vocabulary Recommendation System (RVRS) API. This system takes data about words that a student knows and those they don’t and provides you with recommendations about words to teach along with analytics about their knowledge, including where they have gaps in their reading vocabulary. We return to you words, texts, and instructional recommendations to help fill their knowledge gaps so that you can help your learner to attain more reading knowledge in less time. This will automate progress monitoring and curriculum delivery for a front-end reading vocabulary system.

Use Cases

Find the right words and language patterns. Your reading application helps users learn to read words, including specific phonic patterns in English. You collect data about each user and how they are doing on each word. Our software will deliver to you words and patterns tailored to a given student. We can also give you performance data for each user that tells you how they are doing and the best words to focus on. This automates progress monitoring and word delivery to your frontend learning system.

Automate a time-intensive aspect of teaching. Teachers are experts in teaching, which is a skilled process that only they can do. Reviewing student data to identify student needs is time-consuming. Our API assists in this labor-intensive process, so that they can focus on teaching. Provide (even limited) data about known and unknown words to our system and we deliver back the neighborhoods of language structure to teach to the student. These include built-in neighborhoods of structure concerning semantics, morphology, print & speech. We can implement custom language neighborhoods based on your curriculum/ scope and sequence as well based on your program’s particular focus.

The right text for where the student is. Your technology provides customers with books to read, but you want to give them the best recommendations based on the gaps in their reading vocabulary knowledge. A call to our API will return recommendations of books available in your system while tracking student knowledge based on what they know now. This includes the vocabulary properties of recommended books and why they are the best fit for the student. You can take those suggestions and build them into your recommendation system, and use our analytics to help them track their knowledge over time.

Customization

You may want to build in additional domain knowledge into your system beyond the basic elements of our API. We can work with you to create a custom cognitive model based the reading vocabulary tasks implemented in your learning system. Using the first example above: if your application focuses on specific phonic patterns, we can build a cognitive model with deep knowledge of the words and patterns that are the focus of your system.
